Professional Packing at a Discounted Labor Rate
Packing is where most moving damage occurs. A plate wrapped in a bath towel with two inches of space above it will break on a smooth road. A box filled to fifty pounds with books will fail at the bottom seam the first time it’s lifted.
Horsepower Moving and Storage packs professionally, and packing is priced at a discount to our hourly labor rate. We’re family-owned, licensed and insured, registered with the FMCSA as USDOT 4474565, with background-checked crews – the same people who move your house, doing the part most people dread.
Full Packing, or Just the Materials
There are two ways to do this, and the right one depends on how much time you have.
Full packing. We pack the house – rooms, closets, cabinets, the kitchen. Priced at a discount to our hourly labor rate.
Materials only. Buy boxes and supplies from us at a lower price than you’ll find in the stores, and pack yourself. Our crew can drop them off before your move on request, so you’re packing into proper cartons rather than whatever the liquor store had on hand. We’ll share the full materials price list up front.
Either way, there’s no limit on how many boxes you end up with or what the load weighs. It only has to fit our trucks – all 26 feet, 7 feet 9 inches wide and 6 feet 10 inches high, holding roughly 1,600 square feet of normally furnished living space each.
How Things Get Packed and Protected
Furniture is wrapped before it leaves the room rather than at the tailgate, because the carry is where most damage happens, not the drive.
Mattresses and box springs are removed from their frames and placed in mattress bags, so they arrive clean. Flat-screen televisions are wrapped and protected – though we’d ask you to take them off their wall mounts beforehand if you can, since we don’t re-mount them. Furniture that won’t clear a doorway comes apart instead of being forced, and goes back together at the destination at no additional fee. For antiques, artwork, and other delicate belongings, our specialized handling services provide an extra level of protection throughout the move.

What We Can't Pack or Transport
We’ll tell you this up front so nothing gets pulled off the truck on move day. We can’t pack or transport flammables or fuels, propane tanks, aerosols, paint, pool chemicals, ammunition or explosives, or perishable food. Live plants also can’t travel on long-distance moves.
Fuel needs draining from any powered equipment before we load it – mowers, trimmers, generators. And please disconnect washers and dryers before we arrive; we move them but don’t connect or disconnect them, because faulty water lines can cause floods.
