Apartment Movers Who Know the Stairs Are the Job
An apartment move looks small until you count the flights. A third-floor walk-up with a tight landing takes materially longer than a ground-floor unit holding the same furniture – and any mover who estimates without asking what floor you’re on is guessing.
Horsepower Moving and Storage provides residential moving services for apartments, condos, and townhomes across Louisville and all of Kentucky/Southern Indiana. We’re family-owned, licensed and insured, registered with the FMCSA as USDOT 4474565, and every mover on our crews is background-checked on an ongoing basis.

What Actually Drives the Cost of an Apartment Move
Labor is billed hourly with a two-hour minimum, and the clock starts when the crew arrives at your door, not when they leave our yard. For a small apartment, the minimum is often close to the whole job.
Floor number, carry distance from the truck, and the turns on your staircase are the real variables. So when you request an estimate, tell us the floor, whether there’s an elevator, and how far the truck can get from the entrance. That’s not us being thorough for its own sake – it’s the difference between an estimate that holds and one that gets revised on move day.
Weekends and holidays cost the same as weekdays, and we move 365 days a year. Estimates don’t include the 6% Kentucky sales tax, and card payments incur a 3% service charge at completion that cash or check payments avoid.
Walk-Ups, Tight Turns, and Narrow Stairways
This is routine work for us, not a problem to solve on the day. Narrow stairwells, awkward landings, and doorframes with no clearance to spare come up constantly in older Louisville buildings, and the answer is almost always disassembly rather than force.
Furniture disassembly and reassembly is included at no additional fee. Beds come apart and go back together the same day. Mattresses and box springs go into mattress bags so they aren’t dragged through a stairwell. Flat-screen televisions get wrapped.
If you need help getting everything boxed before moving day, our full packing services can safely prepare your belongings before the move.
Labor-Only Loading and Unloading
Not every apartment move needs a full-service crew and a 26-foot truck.
If you’ve already rented a U-Haul, booked a PODS container, or have a truck of your own and need the heavy lifting done, we offer labor-only loading and unloading. It’s priced hourly with a flat travel fee – same crews, same equipment, without the full-service package. Loading a truck properly is what protects your furniture most in transit, and it’s the part people most often get wrong.

There’s no limit on box count or total weight for a full-service move either. It only has to fit our trucks, which are all 26 feet long, measuring 7 feet 9 inches wide and 6 feet 10 inches high inside, and have a liftgate or a ramp.
