The question comes up on nearly every estimate: will you take the bed apart, and will you put it back together?
Yes to both, and there’s no line item for it. Furniture disassembly and reassembly is included in every move we do – not an add-on, not a special request, not something to negotiate on the day.

What Comes Apart
Most furniture that won’t fit through a doorway in one piece.
Bed frames, including bunk beds and cribs. Dining tables, where the legs or leaves come off. Sectional sofas that were assembled in the room. Desks, shelving units, and wardrobes designed to be knocked down. Mirrors and headboards separated from their frames. Table tops lifted off bases.
The judgment call is whether a piece genuinely needs it. Forcing a sofa through a frame it doesn’t fit is how walls get gouged and upholstery gets torn, so if it needs to come apart, it comes apart. And where a piece won’t clear a turn on a staircase, we remove the banister rather than push – our crews do it routinely, and it goes back on afterward.
Beds Go Back Together the Same Day
This is the part that matters most, and it’s the one thing we won’t leave for tomorrow.
Whatever we disassembled gets reassembled at the destination, and beds are done the same day. Not stacked in a corner for you to work out at eleven at night, not left for a return visit. Made up and ready, so nobody sleeps on a mattress on the floor on their first night in the house.
Mattresses come off frames and into protective bags for the journey, and back onto the reassembled frame at the other end.
How It Affects Your Price
It doesn’t, directly. There’s no disassembly fee and no reassembly fee.
What it does affect is time, and local moves are billed hourly with a two-hour minimum. A house full of furniture that needs taking apart takes longer than one that doesn’t. That’s why we ask about it at the estimate – tell us what’s likely to need disassembly and it gets built into the estimate rather than discovered on the day.
On top of hourly labor sits one flat truck fee, set by where you’re moving and confirmed with your estimate. Estimates are free and carry no obligation, and on-site walkthroughs are available for any move on request; we especially recommend one for larger homes.
Two Things to Handle Before We Arrive
Disconnect your washer and dryer. We move appliances but we don’t connect or disconnect them, because a faulty water line causes a flood at the worst possible moment. Have it done beforehand.
Take televisions off their wall mounts. We’ll wrap and move them, but we don’t re-mount them at the other end.
What We Don’t Do
Worth being clear, because it saves a wasted phone call.
We don’t do standalone furniture assembly. If you have flat-pack furniture that arrived in a box and needs building, that’s a different trade and we’d point you elsewhere. Our disassembly and reassembly happens as part of a move we’re carrying out.
We don’t move certain items at all, whether they come apart or not: grand and baby grand pianos – for those we’d recommend Gist Piano Center – along with grandfather clocks, sheds, and saunas.
Some items we’ll move only once they’re disassembled: pool tables and above-ground pools. For pool tables, Steepleton handles that work in Louisville if you need a referral.
And some carry a special-item fee, confirmed with your estimate, as part of a household move: upright pianos, safes between 300 and 500 pounds, full-size treadmills, large massage chairs, and trampolines. Safes need at least three movers on site. Ping-pong tables carry no extra charge.
