How an Hourly Local Move Is Priced

Most movers in this market won’t explain their pricing until they have you on the phone. Here’s ours, in full.

Labor is billed hourly with a two-hour minimum. On top of that sits one flat truck fee, set by where you’re moving and confirmed with your estimate.

A $100 deposit holds your date and is applied to your final bill. Estimates don’t include the 6% Kentucky sales tax, which is added on top. Card payments carry a 3% service charge at completion; cash or check avoids it. Weekends and holidays cost the same as weekdays – we move 365 days a year, with no premium for Saturday.

What's Included in Every Local Move

Furniture disassembly and reassembly is included at no additional fee. Beds, tables, and anything else that has to come apart to get through a doorway goes back together at the destination – beds the same day, so nobody sleeps on a mattress on the floor.

Mattresses and box springs come off frames and go into mattress bags. Flat-screen televisions get wrapped. Where a piece genuinely won’t clear a turn, we remove the banister rather than force it – our crews do it routinely.

There’s no limit on how many boxes you have or what the load weighs. It only has to fit our trucks, which are all 26 feet long, 7 feet 9 inches wide and 6 feet 10 inches high, with either a liftgate or a ramp. One truck holds roughly 1,600 square feet of normally furnished living space. Larger homes need a second truck, and when a move takes two or more, we pack the day before rather than compressing everything into one day.

At the destination we place furniture where you want it and set boxes down in the rooms they belong to. Before the crew leaves, your crew chief walks you through the itemized Bill of Lading.

How to Spend Less on an Hourly Move

You’re paying for crew time, so anything that removes friction removes cost. These are the difference between a move that lands on estimate and one that doesn’t.

  • Be packed and sealed before we arrive. Empty dresser drawers of anything heavy or breakable.
  • Disconnect electronics and bag the cables.
  • Clear the path from the door to the truck, and keep it clear.
  • Reserve parking or a loading zone in advance.
  • Decide what’s being donated or discarded before move day, not during it.
  • Keep children and pets elsewhere for the day if you can.
  • Pay by cash or check – card payments carry a 3% service charge.

Two things we ask you to handle in advance: disconnect your washer and dryer, and take televisions off their wall mounts. We move appliances but don’t connect or disconnect them – faulty water lines cause floods – and we don’t re-mount TVs.

The most common reason a move runs past its estimate is an undisclosed storage area. Attics, basements, barns, and garages hold more than people remember, so mention them at your estimate.

Booking Your Local Move

We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice and recommend booking two weeks ahead – more if you’re moving between late May and August, when the whole metro is busy. We can sometimes take a short-notice move, so it’s worth calling to ask, and we’ll add you to our cancellation list if you’re hoping for an earlier date.

Crews arrive in one of two windows: morning, 8–9am, or afternoon, 12–4pm. We usually can’t narrow them further, since it’s hard to predict how long morning jobs will run, though we’ll consider a request case by case. On the day, our crew calls with an ETA before setting off, and again when they arrive – you won’t spend the morning waiting by a window.

Submit your deposit once you’re certain of the date. The $100 holds your slot and comes off your final bill, but it’s non-refundable, and a cancellation fee applies within 72 hours of your scheduled move.
