Know What It Costs Before You Book
Free estimates, a written price, and a deposit that comes off your final bill. No moving-day surprises.
Horsepower Moving and Storage is a family-owned Kentucky moving company based at 400 Tucker Station Road in Louisville. Residential and commercial moves, local and long-distance, packing and storage – our own crews, our own trucks, 365 days a year.
We’re licensed and insured, registered with the FMCSA as USDOT 4474565. Our movers are employees who are background-checked on an ongoing basis. Pricing is hourly with a two-hour minimum; the clock starts when the crew arrives, and there’s a flat truck fee, set by where you’re moving and confirmed with your estimate.
We serve Louisville and all of Kentucky/Southern Indiana. Your move carries a flat truck fee, set by where you’re moving and confirmed with your estimate.
Cities we serve include: Louisville, St. Matthews, Jeffersontown, Middletown, Lyndon, Hurstbourne, Anchorage, Crestwood, La Grange, Pewee Valley, Goshen, Buckner, Ballardsville, Jeffersonville, Clarksville, New Albany, Sellersburg, Floyds Knobs, Georgetown, and Charlestown.
Estimated separately: Shelbyville, Shepherdsville, multi-stop moves, and anywhere outside the zones above. Long-distance, we move to and from all 48 contiguous states.

Kentucky’s most varied moving market, from narrow shotgun-house stairways in Old Louisville to downtown high-rises with loading docks and elevator windows booked to the hour. We work out building access, and any Certificate of Insurance, before move day.
Among the largest homes we move. One 26-foot truck holds about 1,600 square feet of furnished space, so a Prospect home often needs two – and a two-truck move means we pack the day before. Gated and HOA sign-in rules confirmed ahead.
Our home base at 400 Tucker Station Road, minutes away in 40243 – short travel time is a real advantage on an hourly rate. Mid-century ranches, newer subdivisions off Old Henry Road, and townhome communities where elevator access is booked in advance.
The most access-dependent area we serve – long private drives without turnaround space, and low tree cover over narrow lanes that matters when every truck in our fleet is 26 feet. We would rather look in person than guess.
Much of our Crestwood work is one route: a Louisville home into a Crestwood subdivision, timed around a closing. When dates don’t align, storage is in-house and goes into your estimate rather than sending you to find a unit.
Main Street here has the CSX line running down the middle, with freight trains through the center several times a day. For a crew on an hourly rate that is scheduling, not scenery – we plan truck parking around it.
Some of the most demanding housing we work in – large nineteenth-century homes on Mansion Row with staircases narrower at the turn than they look, and the climbing roads of Silver Hills. We check access first, not last.
The closest Indiana river town to downtown Louisville, and mostly straightforward – post-war ranches, townhomes, and apartment communities along the Veterans Parkway corridor. The variables here are building rules: elevator windows, loading zones, and gate codes, arranged before the date.
Two very different jobs here: tight nineteenth-century streets in Old Jeffersonville and Port Fulton, or wide-driveway subdivisions out toward Oak Park. Which bridge we use is part of the estimate – the Clark Memorial is toll-free, the I-65 and Lewis and Clark crossings are tolled.
More housing variety in a smaller footprint than anywhere in the metro – dense apartment and condo corridors along Shelbyville Road and Breckenridge Lane, then established streets of mid-century ranches and split-levels just off them. We handle both.
Licensed and insured. Registered with the FMCSA as USDOT 4474565. / We offer replacement-value protection options on every move, explained in writing before you book. For high-value items, we can put together a custom protection plan based on the item’s value.
Our crews are our employees. Background-checked on an ongoing basis. Not day labor.
No surprises on the bill. Hourly labor with a two-hour minimum, one flat truck fee set by where you’re moving, and a $100 deposit that comes off your final bill. Estimates don’t include Kentucky’s 6% sales tax – we’d rather say so here than at the door. Weekends cost no more than weekdays. Send us a competing estimate and our operations team will review it for a price match.
Free in-home estimates. No charge, and recommended for any home over 3,000 square feet.
Included as standard. Furniture disassembly and reassembly at no extra fee. Mattresses come off the frame and into a protective bag. Flat-screen TVs wrapped. No limit on boxes or weight – it only has to fit the truck.
Every day of the year. We move 365 days a year. Arrival windows are 8-9am or 12-4pm, we ask for 48 hours’ notice, recommend two weeks, and keep a cancellation list if you need something earlier.
Tell us where you’re moving from and to, your date, and roughly what’s involved. We’ll come back with a written price.
Residential and commercial moves, local and long-distance, apartments, packing, white-glove handling, and storage - all with our own crews and our own trucks. Whether it's a one-bedroom apartment or a full house to another state, the estimate is free.
Houses, condos, and townhomes, with furniture disassembly and reassembly included at no extra charge.
Office and business relocations, with a Certificate of Insurance issued to your building management.
Third-floor walk-up? Narrow stairways and tight turns are routine for our crews, including banister removal where a piece won't clear.
Hourly crews across Louisville and all of Kentucky/Southern Indiana. One 26-foot truck holds about 1,600 square feet of furnished home.
Interstate moves to all 48 contiguous states, licensed with the FMCSA as USDOT 4474565.
Full packing at a discount off our hourly rate, with materials priced below what you'd pay in the stores.
Premium handling for artwork, antiques, designer furniture, and other delicate or high-value items requiring extra care.
Patient, respectful moving assistance for older adults, with careful planning, packing, and furniture setup included.
Storage between moves, during renovations, or whenever you need extra space - built into your moving estimate.
Access decides the day. Every truck we run is 26 feet long and has a liftgate or ramp. In Old Louisville, that means checking whether the street takes it; in Anchorage, whether the private drive does. We assess before move day, not on arrival.
Size decides the plan. One truck covers about 1,600 square feet of normal furnishing. Densely furnished homes, or attics, barns, and basements nobody mentioned, are the usual reason a move runs past estimate. A free in-home estimate is how we avoid that.
Some things we don’t do, and we’ll say so upfront. Upright pianos, yes, as part of a household move, with a special-item fee confirmed at your estimate. Grands and baby grands no – liability… Safes up to 500 lbs with at least three movers.
Pool tables and above-ground pools only if already disassembled, and Steepleton handles pool table work in Louisville if you need a referral. We don’t move sheds, grandfather clocks, or saunas.
